The likely reasons, in order
Before assuming a record is missing, it is worth ruling these out.
- 1The date range is wrong. Search a wider window, since the registration date may differ from the date of the incident.
- 2The station is wrong. An FIR is registered where the case sits, which is not always the nearest station to where something happened.
- 3It is too recent. Publication lags registration, and how far depends on the state.
- 4It is not published. States withhold some categories entirely.
What absence does not mean
A portal is a publication of records, not an index of every record. An FIR that does not appear may still exist at the station, and no conclusion about anyone should be drawn from not finding one.
Getting a copy anyway
The station that registered the FIR holds the record whether or not it is published. That is the route when the portal has nothing.
