Three services, and which one you want
Delhi Police run separate online services depending on what you are looking for, and it helps to know which is which before you start.
- View FIR: the public search for regular FIRs registered at any Delhi police station. This is the one for finding an existing record.
- Motor Vehicle Theft e-FIR: for registering a stolen-vehicle complaint online where the offender is unknown.
- Lost Property Report: an online acknowledgement for lost articles such as phones, wallets or documents. It is not an FIR and does not start a criminal investigation.
Finding an FIR
View FIR is reached from Citizen Services on delhipolice.gov.in and opens the search page on the Delhi Police CCTNS portal. It is public: there is no registration, no login, and no captcha.
The form offers district, police station, FIR number, year, a registration date range, and a name field with a switch for which kind of name you mean. Fill in what you have.
- 1If you have the FIR number, enter it with the year. It is the most precise thing you can give and returns the record directly.
- 2If you do not, choose the district and police station and give a narrow date range. Matching records are listed, each with the option to open the PDF.
- 3If a name is all you have, use the name field, but read the note below on what a name search does and does not tell you.
About the name search
Because the Delhi page accepts a name, it is worth being clear about what a match means. It shows that the name was recorded in an FIR at that station in that period. An FIR is a record that an allegation was made; it is not a finding that anything happened, and a person named in one has not been charged, let alone convicted. Treating a search result as anything more than that would be a mistake, and an unfair one.
What is published, and when
Delhi Police state that FIRs are uploaded within twenty-four hours of registration, except those classified as sensitive by the district's Deputy or Additional Commissioner of Police. The Supreme Court's own excluded categories, sexual offences, POCSO cases, and matters of insurgency and terrorism, apply as well.
A record you cannot find may be in one of those categories, or may simply not have been uploaded yet.
Lost property report versus FIR
Many people file a Lost Report online for a phone or a wallet and receive a digitally signed Lost Property Report. That document is an acknowledgement, useful for an insurance claim or for applying for a replacement document. It is not an FIR, it does not appear in the FIR search, and it does not begin an investigation. If the item was stolen rather than lost, that is a different report.
